What we do

People are increasingly living digital lives.  We do research to understand how to make that life better for individuals and organisations.  Our core services are listed below:

Design Research

We undertake research that informs the design of social technologies and services.  We do this primarily using ethnographic methods and a range of design exercises, often with audiences, with the goal being to define (better) product and service experiences.  Increasingly we’re taking on work to help design on and offline (none -screen based) experiences.  Recent examples of work include researching how people use their communications ‘ecosystem’ to design a more effective mobile phone navigation and UI for a major handset manufacturer.

Social Media Strategies and Implementation

We can help you understand the opportunities presented by social media (social network sites and web services that allow you to share information and create content) and provide you with ideas to engage your audiences.

We offer a package that provides an analysis of your business needs (stakeholder analysis) and audience needs (fieldwork and desk research) with a design critique of how best to reach both of these needs using social media. Recent examples include work for Umbro, helping them to define and implement a better way to engage with their audience.

Developing Technologies

Our research and design work often leads to us prototyping solutions or creating web applications.  Our expertise in Ruby and Rails allows us to develop scalable, reliable applications as well as prototypes to test out ideas.  The BBC have worked with us to do a couple of prototypes, one of which, Muddy, is now in production for others to use.  And we’ve produced social web applications for the Science Museum and played around creating things like Open Plaques for our own amusement.
